The Peninsula School Feeding Association
Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy has worked in partnership with the Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA) to educate travellers so that they understand and respect the areas in which they travel to ensure that future generations continue to thrive. PSFA is a registered non-profit organisation, established in 1958 with the help of Rotary Club of Paarden Eiland when the previous Government discontinued school feeding. Since then, PSFA has been providing school meals to hungry children in primary schools, secondary schools and special-needs schools across the Western Cape. PSFA feeds 193,000 children daily in more than 600 schools. The organisation receives a subsidy from the Department of Education’s National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) to feed 85% of these children. The difference is covered by PSFA through funds which are raised from public donations, corporate donations, legacies and trusts. In feeding school children, PSFA aims to reduce short-term hunger as well as increase attendance and childrens' active learning capacity while at school. PSFA also aids the communities in the promotion of community organic vegetable gardens.
Visit The Peninsula School Feeding Association with A&K
A&K guests have the opportunity to see first-hand what it’s like to make a practical difference in the lives of impoverished children. Your guide will take you to one of the schools, depending on the school calendar, where you will have an opportunity to help prepare the actual meals for the children. You will have the chance to meet some of the children that benefit from this special program. After the meal you once again have the chance to get involved by helping to clear the dishes (if you wish!) For further information on including such a visit in a South Africa itinerary, contact A&K South Africa.
